Mission: Forgotten Wounds
Location: Crew Quarters |ACSO's Quarters |USS Arcadia

ON:

The ship was drawing ever closer to their destination but Walker had something to do. He hurried along the corridors on the crew level where he didn't usually venture. When he arrived he rang the chime and waited.

Inside the quarters, the young Mr. Poe had just finished his shower and had dressed casually in dark blue jeans and a black t-shirt. He'd been hoping to grab dinner and then maybe watch a movie or two when the ringing of the chime at his quarters stopped him.

He looked up his brow furrowed. Who on Earth? He walked over to the door and opened it his mouth falling open at the sight. "Commander?"

Sabastian smiled. "I said I'd check on you earlier. How are you? Anxiety is gone?"

Poe sighed. "Yeah...um...would you like to come in?"

Sab smiled. "Sure. If I'm not imposing."

Poe shook his head. "Not at all. Please come inside. I was just about to grab dinner...did you want some?"

"Sounds good." He entered the quarters and was hit by a heavenly smell. "What's that?"

Poe smiled. "I'm making a dish that is native to Andoria. It's called Tubor Root soup and I mixed that with a Vulcan casserole. I figure if the Andorian's and Vulcans are not so friendly together maybe the food will work out fine."

Sabastian's lip twitched. "Ah, very diplomatic. It does smell good, and just a point, Vulcan's don't have a veggie casserole."

Poe laughed. "No but I made one!"

Adorable. It was the only word that floated through Sabastian's head as he walked towards the small kitchenette. "Can I help?"

"Absolutely not! You're my guest. What kind of host would I be if I had you work for a meal. It would not be proper Xenia and the Gods would be mad."

Sabastian raised an eyebrow. "Xenia...that's Ancient Greek."

Poe smiled and gave a nod as he poured something over the dish he was working on. "It is! The art of being a good host because you never know when you'll host a god in disguise."

"You like learning about Ancient Greece?" Sabastian sat down at the table close to the kitchen. He hated sitting and doing nothing but he liked hearing about Poe for some reason that he wasn't willing to look too closely into.

Poe shrugged as he gracefully danced through the kitchenette. "I am into Hellenismos."

"Hellen what?" Sabastian sat up.

"Honestly I don't think I want to elaborate you'll probably say I'm weird and never talk to me again and I kind of like talking to you." Poe blushed.

Sabastian smiled. "I do think your weird but in a good way and I like talking with you too." He sighed. "I won't push you. When you are ready but I have a confession to make."

"Oh?" Poe turned to face him.

Sabastian told him about the science office and the thin walls and how he'd asked everyone to leave and how he'd stayed and heard. When he finished he sighed. "I am ashamed that I listened in but..."

Poe smiled sadly. "Curiosity won."

Sabastian gave a nod.

"So now you see what a truly despicable person I am. Rejected by my own family."

Sabastian's head shot up as did his body. Without knowing he moved and took hold of Poe's shoulders. "You are not despicable. They are. You are brave, and have an inner strength few will ever even dream of having. You've pulled yourself out of darkness, to me it sounds as if you've done this repeatedly. You've survived and you are standing here in your position showing that you've thrived and built a life for yourself despite all the challenges life and fate have thrown at you."

Poe looked up holding Sabastian's eyes. It had been the first time anyone had said anything like this to him. "I...I don't know about all that."

"I do. You survived.”

Poe’s eyes filled with tears. “So why am I right back to that hurt and angry boy with just a call.”

Sabastian sighed. He pulled Poe into his arms and just held him a moment before he spoke, “Because when we don’t deal with our past, when we just keep surviving and storing things they come back out and they are more painful. You have a lot of things you need to work through, take this from someone in the same boat for different reasons. Working through pain, grief, trauma, that takes time and if you’re doing it on your own for years it’s hard to let others help but also it’s slower.”

Poe pulled back and looked up. “Makes sense.” He was quiet before he stepped out of Sabastian’s embrace. “Thanks. Sorry, I’m a mess.”

Sab smiled. “You’re fine.” He sat back down. “If you need to talk…”

“Not tonight. Tonight is food and a movie.”

“Oh? What are you going to watch.”

“Will you stay and watch with me? I’m not sure what the movie is but it’s been talked about on the boards. I think it’s about retired Starfleet officers.”

“What’s it called?”

“Fifty Shades of Grey.”

“Never heard of it. Well, we’ll see what it’s about. I haven’t watched a movie in a long time. Now how about that dinner it smells amazing.”

A Few Hours Later

Poe sat on the sofa beet red. "Um...Okay that movie...um...I'm so sorry I thought..."

Sabastian, an equal shade of red blinked. "Yeah no...totally misleading name. I um...should go."

Poe dropped his face in his hands. "I am so sorry the boards said the movie was amazing and I honestly thought it was about Starfleet seniors. I mean grey, grey hair. Right?" A hint of desperation for understanding tinted his voice.

Sabastian stood walking to the door. "No, no. All is good. I have to um...get back to engineering. Movie was fine. We'll talk again soon." He all but ran out the door.

Poe groaned. "I can't believe I watched a racy movie with my boss!" He felt like crying. How would he face Sabastian again?"
