Mission: Forgotten Wounds
ON:
Sabastian had showered, changed into jeans and a t-shirt. If he was going to fly he would do it out of uniform and comfortable. He fixed his hair grabbed his leather jacket and looked in the mirror and laughed. He looked like a character from the movie Grease, one of his favourites. Shrugging he made his way to the shuttle bay.
He was actually looking forward to flying, he'd missed it. If all went well he'd make it a point to return to his shuttle meditations. He did that a lot on the station. Taking out his skiff and just floating amongst the stars, in brough him peace. The journey to the bay was short and when he was the only person inside. The bay had been cleared as he would launch in fifteen minutes.
He checked the shuttles again on the attached monitors and all looked good. Satisfied he headed to his skiff only to stop short. There, in front of the craft, stood Poe with a broom? "Are you planning to sweep me away with that?"
"You shall not pass. um... Please. Please don't go."
Sabastian sighed and looked over at Poe. The Captain, during breakfast, had filled him in on Poe's visit. "Poe, put the broom down."
"No, cause then you'll go on the shuttle. I know the plan. I can knock you out and and..."
Sabastian walked up to Poe and took hold of the broom. "And?"
Poe shook his head. "Please don't go. I have..."
"Yes, the Captain told me and you were right. I found something wrong with a shuttle and the skiff this morning. I fixed it."
"You did?" Poe's eyes widened.
"Yes, and if I hadn't my goose would have been cooked. Fire doom and gloom but I caught it. I'm going to be okay." He pulled the broom out of Poe's hands and set it down. He pulled Poe over to the crates and sat down. "Sit."
Poe sat.
"Thank you though. For looking out for me. To be honest it feels kind of nice."
Poe smiled. "Another reason I'm a freak I get these feelings and..."
Sab put an arm around Poe. "All good. I'm glad you're cautious and again you were right and now it's fixed. I will come back. Besides that horrible and embarrassing movie we watched has a part two and three so we got a few movie nights to finish.
Poe laughed. "Yeah, I guess so."
They sat there in a peaceful silence before Poe asked. "Can I ask you something?"
"Shoot." He said.
"Are...are we friends?"
Sabastian smiled. "I'd like to think so which is weird because I have a hard time forming friendships."
"I... don't know what friendships feel like. I usually talk to people and help them out and then when I need to talk or help they don't so...I never know if that's how it goes or if ... I don't know. I've never really had friends I guess I try but..."
Sabastian sighed and then looked at him. "We're friends Aiden."
"Okay." He said quietly.
Sabastian stood and took his jacket off draping it over Poe. "There. It smells like my citrus perfume so that should help with your anxiety."
Poe smiled. "It smells nice."
They stayed silent a moment before Poe continued. "I heard about...your husband. I'm really sorry he cheated on you. Your department people were talking and they were mad...I guess they're your friends too?"
Sabastian smiled. "Yeah they are and as for Zai, I was quite the fool on that one. I guess we've all had bad relationships."
Poe shook his head. "Not me. I've never had one good or bad."
Sabastian turned his head to look at Poe. "Like at all?"
"Yup. Don't even know what one looks like. "Commander is it different from friendship?"
Sabastian let out a puff of air. "Yeah. A lot. I'll explain it all when I get back." He was silent for a moment. "Gabriel."
"Huh?"
"If we're friends call me Gabriel, I prefer it to Sabastian it's my middle name."
"Oh! I wish I had one. It's Aiden Poe so can we still be friends if I don't have a middle name?
Sabastian laughed. "You have a middle name."
"I do?"
"Sunshine. You are pure sunshine. I've never met someone like you who could make me smile even if I don't want to."
Poe blushed. "Oh. That's good right?"
Sabastian smiled. "Yeah. Now. I got the probes loaded on the skiff and I’ll be releasing them as soon as I hit the outside of the field. You should go to the bridge.
They both stood and Poe pulled off the jacket to hand it to Walker. Sab put his arms up. "Keep it. It will keep you calm while your reading the probe data. You can give it back to me when I get back to the ship.
"Okay. Um... Gabe....riel?"
Sab smiled. "Gabe is fine. What's up?"
"Can I hug you?"
Sabastian laughed. "Yeah. I kind of figured you would, you are the touchy feely type."
"I'm sorry..."
"No, Aiden. Don't change. Always be your sunny self. I'll see you when I'm back. We'll have movie night and blush through part two of the grey movies."
Aiden pulled his head back and looked up at Sabastian. "Deal. Chocolate instead of popcorn?"
"Sure." With one last squeeze he let Poe go and headed into the skiff. He turned back and gave Poe a wink. "Let's get those probes out and everyone back to the ship safe."
"Good luck!" Poe smiled, waved, and headed off.
Shaking his head Walker entered the shuttle. What was it about that kid that drew him in. He somehow felt ten feet tall around him and like a superhero, he also wanted to bubble wrap the kid and keep him away from all the ills of the world. It was hard to believe that Poe was 28 years old. He seemed so much younger as if the ills of the world hadn't left their mark on him no matter how much he'd suffered. He had a few things to think about when he returned. For now, he had a mission to take care of. Sab said a prayer to the Vulcan Gods to keep bring him back, not because he had a wish to go on but because there was someone who actually would be happy to see him when he came back. It confused him but also seemed to melt that ice wall he'd put up around his heart just a little.
